Over the next few days I plan on doing articles on all of the Death Knight spells based on what we know. I will start the series with starting spells and break that down into 3 posts. They will focus on each family starting with the Blood tree. (keep in mind that this information is subject to and most likely will change)
Blood
Upon creation you’ll find the Blood section of your spell book in the above state. You will find Blood Presence and Blood Strike. First up on our list is Blood Presence.
Presence’s will be a brand new spell mechanic in WotLK. They will be much like a Paladin aura except they will only effect the Death Knight, however, you can spend talent points in Blood Aura to increase it’s effect and create a party wide strength buff:
Blood Aura increases strength gain for party members by 1/2/3/4/5% per point spent and 10/20/30/40/50% increase healing from Blood Presence per point spent. This will be the presence of choice of most leveling and DPSing Death Knights. Here is a shot of Blood Presence being cast:
There is an ongoing discussion in our forums in regards to Presence’s, feel free to join in.
Next up is Blood Strike.
Blood Strike will most likely be the main attack for many Death Knights. Here is a look at it’s tooltip:
As you can see it is an instant attack that causes 60% weapon damage, which means that toting around a high min/max damage two-hand weapon will cause it to hit a lot harder. There are also several talents that will increase it’s effectiveness. We have a nice post in our forums that outline those talents, but I will list them here:
Improved Blood Strike scales 5/10/15% per point spent, which will give Blood Strike 15% additional damage PER disease on a target.
Rage of Rivendare is a deep Unholy talent, but as you can see, it has a potential of increasing Blood Strike by an additional 10% damage if you max out all five points in it.
At present there are five known diseases that a Death Knight is capable of applying to their target, Sileya list those in the forums, and it is unknown on how multiple DK’s stacking diseases will effect the damage of Blood Strike. As you can see though, it’s damage potential is huge and should become the attack of choice for many Death Knights. Here is a SS of it in action:
That’s a look at your starting Blood spells. Up next will be the Unholy tree! Until then, feel free to check out the mind boggling math crafting and much dissected Spell section of our forums. If you have video of any of the spells in action please post them in our forums, PM me in our forums, or mail them to:
